How To Take Advantage of ‘Share & Pair Sundays’

How to take advantage of Share & Pair Sundays

Feeling a bit lonely these days? Looking for some inspiration to pull family and friends together? Then consider taking advantage of a new spring-to-summer initiative called “Share & Pair Sundays” aimed to get people to meet up on Sundays to “enjoy wine, food, friends, and family.”

The campaign is the latest endeavor by the founders of the “Come Over October” campaign created in 2024 by three wine industry professionals: wine writer Karen MacNeil, author of the Wine Bible, Gino Colangelo, president of Colangelo & Partners, and Kimberly Noelle Charles, DipWSET, founder and president of Charles Communications Associates. That campaign’s goal was to tell wine’s positive story and its huge beneficial role as a communal beverage.  It was also aimed in part at addressing the recent anti-alcohol attitude in some circles and the loneliness epidemic.

“Wine and community and togetherness go hand in hand,” said MacNeil, speaking at a recent webinar about the new promotion.

The great success of Come Over October led to “Share & Pair Sundays.”

“It’s a social campaign. When people ask what was a great bottle of wine they had, everyone remembers who they were with for it,” she added.

The new initiative amplifies the focus on food, so there will be increased engagement of both wine and food enthusiasts, and from different cultures.

“Like Come Over October, wine and food are the foundations of togetherness, especially now in these times of social media,” she noted.

The campaign runs through May 25, 2025.

What Consumers May Expect

There will be both local and virtual events. You should keep an eye out for, among other things:

·         In-store promotions of food and wine pairings

·         Wine events in restaurants and hotels

·         Food tastings held at wineries

·         Social media participation by celebrity chefs, sports figures, and food influencers

·         Outreach from wineries and retail, including by email and text, to spread awareness

In addition, the Share & Pair website includes tools, recipes, and ideas for consumers to host gatherings. It is expected that as the campaign gathers steam, there will be additional resources on the website, so you may want to check it periodically.

In addition, wine industry stakeholders are helping with the promotion. For instance, localwineevents.com has dedicated a page on its website to the initiative to make it easier for consumers to find local events. Note that an event may not specifically say “Share & Pair Sundays” but you may see an uptick in programming on Sundays.

And of course you’re not limited to gathering on Sunday. “In a sense, Sunday is a frame of mind. [Any day is a good for getting together],” MacNeil noted.

Why You Should Consider Participating

Why should you take advantage of “Share and Pair” Sundays? Because it sounds like fun! It’s also a great excuse to reach out to people and connect – or reconnect. Invite them to come over, join in, meet up.

“The success of Come Over October proved that wine lovers are eager for fun, easy ways to engage with wineries and the community. Share & Pair Sundays is the next step in that journey,” said MacNeil.
